When can I learn to surf?
Southerndown Surf School runs morning, afternoon and
evening surf lessons depending on availability and the time of year. The
sessions last for approximately two hours and we ask that you check in 10
minutes before the lesson start time. Please read our terms & conditions
for more detailed information.
Where is Southerndown Surf
School?
The location of surf lessons may vary. It is the responsibility of the customer to make themselves aware of where the lessons will
be held. This can be done by contacting us on the day of the lesson around 9.00
am..
Can I just turn up or do I need to book?
It is best to book because each course has a limited number of places therefore
you will avoid disappointment. The strict instructor-to-student ratio ensures a
more personal level of instruction for every surfer.
What do I need to bring?
The cost of the course includes the use of a wetsuit and surfboard. You will
need to bring a towel, sunscreen, swimwear to wear
under your wetsuit and warm clothes for after your session. It is best to bring as little as
possible as Southerndown Surf School cannot be held
responsible for your items.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
All beginners courses take place in waist-deep water
so you do not need to be an excellent swimmer. The instructor will work with
each individual so they can enjoy their surfing lesson within their own level
of confidence.
What will I actually be doing?
Our instructors are all fully qualified BSA surf coaches and beach lifeguards
who will introduce you to the equipment, how to surf it and how to catch a
wave. Safety is a big factor and you will be shown good awareness of your
surroundings, whilst at the same having a great time.
